American University Library invites applications for a tenure track
Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian at the rank of Assistant or
Associate Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking a forward thinking Serials/Electronic Resources
Librarian to provide vision and leadership for the functions of
organization of serials, electronic resources and digital initiatives.
Oversee the administrative functions of the acquisitions of serials and
the functions of purchasing, licensing, and acquiring access to electronic
resources with a $2.1 million budget.  Participate in and provide support
for digital initiatives to include the American University?s institutional
repository (ARC) and the Blackboard Library Site.  Manage the services,
shelving and collection maintenance for current periodicals, bound
periodicals, microfilm, and newspaper collections.  Perform administrative
and management tasks, including formulating and implementing unit goals,
policies and procedures; hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising
five full time staff and part time student assistants.  Participate in
collection development activities.  Work closely with other library units.
  This position provides library instruction or reference service.

Library faculty participate in library governance activities.  Library
faculty are expected to develop professionally, to contribute to creative
and scholarly research, and to participate in campus-wide activities.

Position is responsible to the Assistant University Librarian for
Collections Services.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited M.L.S.  Minimum of three years of
progressively responsible management and serials experience; experience
with MARC formats and other metadata; two years experience with the
functions of purchasing, licensing, and acquiring access to electronic
resources; experience with budgets and fiscal control; one year experience
with the technological aspects of electronic resources; demonstrated
experience with the process of digitization of materials. Experience with
Voyager preferred. Evidence of flexibility, initiative, ability to work
collegially in a team environment, excellent organizational, interpersonal
and communications skills. Ability to work across a broad-based
constituency and to communicate a positive library image.  Potential to
meet tenure requirements in performance of primary responsibilities,
professional and creative development, and university service. Evidence of
potential for scholarship and ongoing professional development. Preferred:
Experience with providing library instruction or reference service.

Position available: November 1, 2007.

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
