Re: Highwire Press Free Journals Karen King 16 Mar 2008 21:09 UTC

Dear Barbara,

HighWire Press, a division of Stanford University Libraries, hosts
journal content on behalf of over 140 learned and professional scholarly
publishers. Whereas many of the HighWire-affiliated publishers have
policies which permit free access to journal back issues, most
publishers require a subscription to access current journal content. In
addition, when an institution holds a subscription, it is necessary to
activate the online account. The problems your users are encountering
could be occurring because they are trying to access current content,
and either your institution does not have a subscription to the journal
or your institution's subscription has not been activated.

For more information on the access polices of HighWire-affiliated
publishers, please see: http://highwire.stanford.edu/lists/freeart.dtl

Sincerely,

Karen King

Hello, everyone. Our patrons like to use the Highwire Press Database

and the Highwire Press Free Journals for their research. We have the

Highwire Press Free Journals set up in our Serials Solutions A to Z List

and 360 Linker. The main problem with this is that when patrons click

on the url to go to an article, it isn't always free. Some say it is

free with a registration or something. Does each individual title

require a registration. How do you all handle this problem?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Barbara Pope, MALS
