Re: III and Serials solutions Rebecca M. Torrey 25 Apr 2008 14:45 UTC

Hi Andree,

We're in the process of setting up our III ERM here at Dartmouth and are
doing things as you describe. In regards to attaching order records to the
resource record instead of a suppressed bib record, it can be viewed while
in the serials module, but not in the title index. You need to add resource
name to the index drop down. It makes sense that resource records cannot be
called up by the title because the title is a bib field and there is no bib
record in this case.

For the few resource records that we've attached order records to (instead
of soft-linked), it's created some problems. Unless people know to search
by resource name instead of title, they won't find the record.
Additionally, when we pull review files of our digital resources with
payment records attached, the resource records leave the title field blank.
All this means is when we export a review file we have to remember to
include the resource name field in addition to the title field. It's a
change in process that we're not accustomed to yet, but it doesn't mean it's
not the right way to do it. We're trying to decide how to best go about
this and whether or not one way is better than the other. If anyone has
experience with attaching order records to resource records versus
soft-linking order records and is willing to share what they view as the
pros and cons, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks.
