Yes, we began our subscription almost a year ago. We are licensed for 3 users, which has not been a problem. The interface leaves much to be desired from a librarian point of view, but the students don't seem to mind. We cancelled a number of print newspapers in order to cover the cost, since most of our remaining newspapers are never used in print anymore. --Jennifer Jennifer van Sickle Serials Librarian & Sciences Coordinator Trinity College Library 300 Summit St. Hartford, CT USA 06106 jennifer.vansickle@trincoll.edu phone: 860-297-2250 fax: 860-297-2251 -----Original Message----- From: SERIALST: Serials in Libraries Discussion Forum [mailto:SERIALST@list.uvm.edu] On Behalf Of Moffitt, Nellie S CIV CNIC MILL DET, N9 Sent: Monday, May 12, 2008 11:56 AM To: SERIALST@LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: Re: [SERIALST] Daily Newspapers Does anyone subscribe to http://www.newspaperdirect.com/products/printondemand.aspx For print on demand newspapers?? We have cancelled many newspapers due to cost and lack of use in print. For US newspapers, our NYT is heavily read in print; we also have the local Hartford Courant and the WSJ. Otherwise, yes, students and faculty are mostly using the online versions, either direct or via aggregators. The delivery service says that the major newspaper companies can no longer afford to transport papers to smaller markets. Our only option will be to subscribe to newspapers via mail delivery, meaning that our users who like to come in first thing in the morning and read the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune will no longer be able to do so. I wonder if other libraries are experiencing similar problems with newspaper delivery? Will you continue with mail delivery? Or are you canceling print newspapers and relying on the online versions?
