University of Notre Dame Libraries invites applications for the position
of Licensing /Acquisitions Librarian.

This position provides leadership for the process of investigating,
negotiating and licensing electronic resources in a departmental team
environment where the life cycle of electronic resources is managed. The
Licensing/Acquisitions Librarian supervises one FTE staff position, and
reports to the Head, Electronic Resources & Serials Access in the
Information Systems & Architecture Division.

Responsibilities include investigating and comparing vendor products and
offers, establishing and maintaining effective vendor relations,
negotiating and documenting license terms, enhancing selector awareness
of access alternatives and issues, documenting status of electronic
subscriptions, and collaborating in the management of the Electronic
Resource Management System (Verde).

Working closely with the Associate Director for Collections, Head
Monograph Acquisitions, and with Libraries selectors, this position
contributes to the success of electronic resources and serials
collections acquisition and management.

In consultation with University Counsel, negotiates and reviews digital
resource licenses and user agreements to ensure their compliance with
established standards, requirements, best practices, and copyright
guidelines to ensure the broadest educational uses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Effectively negotiates and monitors digital resource license
agreements, including cost/access arrangements and renewals.
• Maintains documentation on licenses and related agreements. Ensures
that terms and conditions in signed licenses are clearly communicated
and available to library services departments such as Resource Delivery
and Reserves, as well as Notre Dame affiliated users.
• Coordinates order arrangements and communication as part of the
licensing and acquisition process; communicates effectively with those
who manage related and subsequent steps of the acquisition and access work.
• Actively communicates licensing and acquisition best practices to ND
library community to improve their understanding of selection issues
related to digital resources.
• Works with technology specialists in preparing analytic management
reports in support of collection development needs.
• Member of University Libraries Copyright and Licensing Committee.

As a member of the library faculty, s/he is expected to serve the
University and the libraries on various committees and teams, contribute
to the profession, and engage in professional development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Accredited MLS or equivalent relevant degree
• Two years professional experience with academic online resources and
services. The candidate should possess extensive knowledge and
understanding of issues and practices related to e-resource use,
management, and preservation. Excellent understanding of underlying
technical aspects of electronic resources design, access and use,
including user interfaces, browser technologies, authentication
technologies, and link resolvers.
• Basic understanding of publisher's licensing and business models.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal
skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate between
departments and constituents to provide excellent service and the
broadest possible educational uses of Libraries’ content in support of
classroom instruction and research. Ability to work creatively,
collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently
and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
• Capacity to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent and innovative services
in an academic setting or research library.
• Knowledge of copyright policies and intellectual property issues in
academic institutions and higher education.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated experience in licensing of electronic resources including
reviewing, negotiating, analyzing, or drafting digital resource license
agreements.
• Knowledge of copyright and fair use issues raised in licensing media
resources, including video, audio, images.
• Law degree or legal background

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary and rank commensurate with experience and
qualifications, with a minimum of $44,000. Librarians are non-tenure
track members of the faculty and earn 20 days of vacation annually, plus
University holidays including the week between Christmas and New Year's
Day. The University offers an excellent benefits package.

50,000 loan requests, document delivery had 3,900 requests, and the KKIC
