Position Title: Assistant Professor

Area of Specialization:  Electronic Resources

Department:  Library

Department Profile:  The University Libraries provide their communities of users an ongoing, creative and technologically advanced library program.
Position Function  To serve as a member of a dynamic Technical Services Management Team committed to the successful acquisition and management of the Libraries' collection of electronic resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  Collaborates with relevant personnel and departments in planning, setting goals and monitoring work flows concerning electronic resources; attends meetings with members of the Technical Services Management Team and participates in the Library Coordinators group meetings; activates and authenticates electronic journal access, including the resolution of access problems with Serials Solutions or other comparable ERM systems; manages and carries out procedures pertaining to the processing of invoices for electronic resources; maintains ongoing contacts with publishers and vendors; participates in the license review process for electronic resources including interpreting contract terms and agreements and works directly under the supervision of the Library Administrator of Systems to fulfill this responsibility; collaborates with the Systems group to assist in providing access and solutions to access related issues and works directly under the supervision of the Libraries Administrator of Systems to fulfill this responsibility; maintains records, statistics and databases necessary for the management of electronic resources, including the Libraries' electronic resources management system; collaborates with serials cataloging to assist with record maintenance; serves on library committees,  including the Electronic Resources Evaluation committee; participates in appropriate collection development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.

Minimum Qualifications  ALA accredited MLS/MLIS required.

Preferred Qualifications  Additional graduate degree; previous library experience working with electronic resources; experience with the acquisition and serials modules of the SirsiDynix Workflows integrated library system; experience with Serials Solutions products; familiarity with link resolvers, OpenURL applications, ERMS and other library technologies related to e-resource management and access; experience working with vendors and subscription agents; knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic) and experience with spreadsheets and databases, preferably FileMaker Pro, MS Excel and Access.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  Knowledge of current trends in the management and access of electronic resources; experience with an automated library system; including the use of a serials module as well as working knowledge of proxy services, ERM tools and the setup and troubleshooting for access to online journals and databases; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to set and adjust priorities and workflow in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; ability to work independently as well as part of a team; ability to carryout professional research and service necessary to meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure.
