Metadata and Authority Control Librarian

The New Mexico State University Library invites applications for Metadata
and Authority Control Librarian.

POSITION INFORMATION: This is a 9-month appointment, entry level
tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor.

This position will be responsible for metadata import and production,
facilitate metadata scheme specification and adaptation; provide training
and technical assistance to other staff, and coordinate the formulation and
implementation of policies and standards for descriptive, technical and
administrative metadata. Regularly perform authority control activities.
Reports to the Head of Technical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; demonstrated
knowledge of issues and trends in digital library development and metadata
standards; working knowledge of non-MARC metadata schemes, such as, Dublin
Core, METS, and VRA Core, etc.; awareness of current and emerging issues in
institutional and open repository schemes. Ability to take an active role in
leading and managing metadata initiatives associated with institutional
repositories and digital archives. Experience with or knowledge of
traditional cataloging standards and practices using MARC, AACR2, LCSH and
LC classification as these apply to authority control.  Proficiency in
Microsoft Access and demonstrated ability to create complex queries.
familiarity with MarcEdit software.  Excellent oral and written
communication skills. Demonstrated excellence in planning, leadership,
communication, and project management skills.  Ability to meet tenure track
requirements in the areas of librarianship, scholarship and creative
activity, service, extension and outreach

P referred: Experience in mid-to-large size academic or research library;
knowledge of integrated library system, preferably Voyager; working
knowledge of at least one foreign language, preferably Spanish; Familiarity
with current open access initiatives such as OAI.  Experience with dSpace,
ContentDM, Fedora, or similar technologies .  Familiarity with copyright
issues, digital rights, digital preservation and technical metadata.

demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial environment.
