We receive our paper through a third party delivery service (they bundle most of our papers and deliver them in the morning). I have spoken with our delivery service and NYT and the conclusion seems to be that we will receive a password for our print subscriptions even though we don't order directly from NYT. I would push EBSCO to see if they can offer something similar. NYT indicated that they are compiling a database of third party vendors that sell subscriptions. Our vendor (National News) is compiling a list of their NYT subscribers which they are sending on to NYT so that the subscriptions can be verified when people want to access their digital copies. Whether or not this will work smoothly remains to be seen as we still don't have our password. I have also spoken with NYT about IP access and they seemed confused by what that was. It could just have been the customer service rep. that was confused, but it seems like they are not planning on offering institutional access at this time.

As a library, we pay considerably more for a print subscription than an individual does, so the Times is going to have to address this somehow.

Our EBSCO support contact says there is an institutional rolling 90-day plan for online access, but it has to be ordered direct.  I've not yet been able to find anything about online institutional subscriptions on the NYT site.  I did email their customer support department, and am awaiting a reply.

Does anyone else have information on this?

I just became aware that the New York Times will soon start charging online readers who want to read more than 20 articles per month. Since our transition from traditional microfilm to the ProQuest Digital Microfilm product (which has a 2-3 month lag time in filming), we have relied on our print subscription and NYTimes.com to fill the gap.

Anyone else have plans or suggestions on how to proceed in light of the new fees?
