De Gruyter Chosen by Harvard University Press as Sales Partner for its
Electronic Content

Transatlantic Agreement Will Extend both Organizations’ International Reach

Berlin, Germany, and Cambridge, Mass., USA, January 11, 2012

Beginning in January, 2012, Harvard University Press will market its
entire range of electronic products, including both new books and a back
catalogue of more than 10,000 titles, through the Berlin-based
independent publishing house De Gruyter, Harvard University Press and De
Gruyter announced today.

William P. Sisler, Director of University Press (HUP), said the
partnership furthers HUP’s commitment to ensuring its serious nonfiction
of the highest quality reaches a diverse and global audience.

“The international reach of De Gruyter’s electronic marketing will
enable us to share vital ideas with a widening audience of scholars,
students, and general readers across the globe—our mission for nearly
100 years,” Sisler said.

Katrin Siems, Vice President Marketing and Sales at De Gruyter, noted
that the partnership with HUP comes at the same time De Gruyter is
introducing a new platform featuring an integrated interface for
e-books, journals, and databanks.

“For De Gruyter, this partnership brings two enormous benefits. Firstly
it confirms our long-term investment policy in electronic publishing.
Secondly, the inclusion of Harvard’s newly published and backlist books
in our product range will significantly increase the attractiveness of
our content for libraries in the international markets.”

ASCE Chooses Atypon Platform for the ASCE Library

RESTON, Virginia (January 2012) - The American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE) announced today that it has selected Atypon's Literatum
publishing platform to power the next generation of the ASCE Library.
The new platform will launch third quarter 2012.

The new ASCE Library will make use of Atypon's latest innovations in
publishing technology to become a single destination for all ASCE
technical content. The new platform will be augmented by powerful
discovery tools including taxonomic browsing and data visualizations,
placing ASCE firmly at the center of civil engineering knowledge.

The ASCE Library (ascelibrary.org) is the most extensive resource for
civil engineering research and application-oriented content, with more
than 86,000 technical and professional articles from 33 ASCE Journals
(1983 to the present), and more than 300 Conference Proceedings. ASCE
publishes approximately 7,000 new articles in the ASCE Library each
year.

"The ASCE Library is the most-respected and richest collection of civil
engineering content in the world," said Bruce Gossett, Managing Director
of Publications for ASCE. "With Atypon serving as our strategic partner,
we will be able to integrate book with journal content and add
best-in-class social media and discovery tools. The ASCE Library will
evolve into a user-centric research and learning environment."

"Innovation is deeply embedded in Atypon's DNA, and we're passionate
about helping our clients develop the next generation of information
products," said Gordon Tibbitts, President of Atypon. "ASCE will benefit
not only from our technology, but from our thought leadership, and we
from theirs."

ASCE will keep the library community informed of our progress as we move
through the transition.
