Head, Collection Development and Preservation (FA 262z) George Mason University Libraries seeks an experienced, innovative, team-oriented librarian for the position of Head, Collection Development and Preservation (CDP). This position provides leadership for collection development and preservation activities of a large university library system (four libraries on three campuses) coordinating the collection development and evaluation responsibilities of more than 20 selectors (working through three broad-based disciplinary teams of six or seven librarians each). The Head, CDP works very closely with the teams and their three team leaders. Manages expenditure by selectors of the Libraries’ research materials budget (FY2012 $9.2M). Manages the Libraries’ electronic resources licensing operations. Works closely with two consortia: VIVA (The Virtual Library of Virginia) and WRLC (Washington Research Library Consortium). Prepares management reports and analyses; oversees electronic data archive and approval plans; and may have subject liaison responsibilities, depending on interest and expertise. As preservation officer, leads integration of current preservation activities and plans for a new, comprehensive preservation program. Directly supervises two librarians and 2.5 support staff. Reports to the Associate University Librarian for Resources and Collection Management Services. Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent; substantial professional collection development experience in a research-level library; in-depth knowledge of academic publishing (electronic and print); demonstrated ability to coordinate peer responsibilities in a collaborative environment; excellent leadership and communication skills; and collegial orientation.
