I am sending this job advertisement out over the serials list in hopes of attracting someone with good management skills and a knowledge of serials acquisitions. This is a good position for someone wanting to expand his/her experience beyond the realm of serials to becoming an acquisitions manager. Good human relations skills and successful management experience are required. HEAD OF ACQUISITIONS (search reopened). Under the direction of the Head of Technical Services, is responsible for the overall operation of and lan- planning for the Acquisitions Unit, a newly combined monographs/serials acquisitions unit. This includes pre-order searching, serials control, ordering/receiving, gifts, bindery preparation and mending, the expenditure of a materials budget of $2 million, and the non-selection aspects of Collection Development such as monitoring trends in the publishing industry and foreign exchange as they impact on the Libray's ability to acquire material, and gathering, compiling and analyzing statistics and information related to the purchase of monographs and serials. Also plans for the implementation of enhancements to the acquisitions and serials functions of NOTIS. The Unit consists of two professionals and 13 support staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school, red: previous supervisory responsibilities in acquisitions, at least 5 years successful professional management experience, demonstrated leadership ability and superior human relations skills. Preferred: Experience with serials acquisitions and an automated acquisitions system. Salary range: $33,000 minimum, depending on qualifications and rank.
