At the University of Vermont, we also have NOTIS 4.6 and have encountered
the same phenomena in regard to the indicators of the 780 and 785 linking
entry fields:

In current cataloging procedures, we're doing exactly what you're doing
at KSU. We use 78x 00 for straightforward continued and continued by
notes. For more complicated linking entries (2 or more for a given 78x)
we use 78x 1x and a 580 note to describe the relationship(s)/link(s)
in a note. Presumably the first indicator "1" will suppress 78x notes from
displaying (thus producing 2 redundant notes in the OPAC)
if NOTIS should get first indicator "0" up and running
as a note-generating indicator in all instances in future software releases.
