                       POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

                   HEAD, PRESERVATION DEPARTMENT

       Golda Meir Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

POSITION DUTIES:  Reports to the Assistant Director for Technical
Services; responsible for managing and coordinating activities of
the Preservation Department (Materials processing section, Bindery
section, and Book reformatting section).  Includes the training
and supervision of 5 full-time staff and 2.5 FTE student
assistants.  Develops goals and priorities for the preservation
and conservation of library materials, including management of
brittle books program.  Plans and conducts preservation education
programs for library staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must have received the
MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program; three years
experience in an academic or research library setting in
preservation or preservation-related areas (may include bindery
operations, serials management); broad knowledge of preservation
based on work experience, equivalent coursework, or related
training; proven administrative and supervisory skills;
familiarity with automated library systems and library binding
practices; understanding of serial issues; ability to plan and
implement projects and to work independently; strong oral
and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work
effectively with staff at all levels.

SALARY:  Starting salary from $28,776 commensurate with experience
and qualifications.

probationary appointment leading to indefinite appointment.

                        MUSIC/AV CATALOGER

       Golda Meir Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

POSITION DUTIES:  Responsible for the cataloging and
classification of music materials; performs original and copy
cataloging of scores, sound recordings, and music monographs in
English and foreign languages.  Responsible for the original
cataloging of videotapes and films, and acts as a resource person
for staff performing copy cataloging of videotapes and films.
Participates in the OCLC ENHANCE program for scores and sound
recordings.  Responsible for maintaining music records in the
NLS/NOTIS database.  Trains library personnel in music cataloging
and various aspects of music record maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must have received the
MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program, and a Bachelor's
Degree in Music.  An additional Master's Degree in Music, foreign
language ability, and knowledge of automated operations (e.g.,
OCLC, RLIN, NOTIS); are desirable.

SALARY:  Starting salary from $25,076 commensurate with experience
and qualifications.
