Call for NOTIS User Council volunteers Alan Alexander-Manifold 02 Apr 1993 19:33 UTC

This message is going to multiple lists. I apologize for any
duplication. If you are not at a NOTIS site, you will probably
not find this message interesting. I apologize for cluttering
the mailboxes of non-NOTIS users.

I have today sent a message to this list which outlines the proposal
adopted at ALA Midwinter for a NOTIS "User Council". Please take the
opportunity to read it and become familiar with the major aspects of
the proposal as you consider this request. I have been charged
with getting the process moving toward forming this group. Each SIG
has been contacted (those that I could reach by e-mail) and offered
the opportunity to nominate an individual that they feel would be a good
candidate for membership on the Advisory Group.

**> I am now making a general request for volunteers from the <**
**> user community for membership on this advisory group. <**

I want to explain a bit about the selection process, so you will not
suffer from erroneous assumptions. The Advisory Committee will be made
up of no more than six individuals. We hope to get people who are
known and respected by the user community, and who will be able to
bring to the discussions a very broad outlook. All nominees and
volunteers will be considered using those criteria. As there are more
than twenty SIGs, and there are likely to be quite a few volunteers,
not all of the people nominated will be chosen. When all of the
nominations and volunteers are in, the chairs of the Acquisitions,
Cataloging & Authorities, Circulation, LIB1, OPAC & Training, and
Serials SIGs will review the resumes and nominations, and will make a
recommendation to NOTIS as to who should be appointed to the
committee. NOTIS itself will make the final selection.

These SIG chairs will probably meet at ALA Annual meeting at the end of
June to agree upon their recommendations. I say probably because they
(or you, in some cases) have not been consulted about this--but that
was the plan. So that they will all have time to review the resumes
before they have to meet, all nominations must be returned to me
(preferably by e-mail) no later than June 1, 1993. Nominations received
after that date may not be given proper consideration.

Nominations should include:
      - Name, institution, position, and duties
      - NOTIS LMS modules and other products installed (with version
numbers), and length of time in production
      - Years of experience with LMS and other NOTIS products
      - Other qualifications (experience with other automation products,
        committees served on, etc.)
      - SIGs of which you are or have been a member, and SIG offices
        held
      - Reasons for wishing to serve

You may also nominate someone other than yourself. If you do so,
the individual you nominate will be contacted for more specific
information after your nomination has been received. Please send me
your nomination soon enough that the individual will have time to
respond to my request for more information. Please indicate whether
you have already contacted the individual you nominate, and
whether they have agreed to have their name put forward.

If you have any questions, please contact me, either by e-mail or
by traditional methods. Do not send nominations to the list(s).
