Duplicate exchange Aaron Smith 19 May 1993 20:45 UTC

After being prompted by Birdie's recent commentary on the state of
duplicate exchange with respect to the list, I think I'll stick my neck
out and invite some responses.

While I'm not ready tortain what we are trying to create here, there
seems to be a clear need for some exchange of information regarding issues
available for barter and the reciprocal need for such issues. I am clearly not
ready to moderate a new list, nor am I even certain we could do that here, but
I would like to function as a temporary clearing house for comments.

In particular, I would like to hear from those who are in a position
to actively pursue this issue, and have simply not had the resources (human or
temporal) to do the paperwork.

        1) What is the preferred method for communication? Some folks are
not equipped to FTP, some e-mail systems are a bit limiting, and
even the postal service may be the most efficient method if
              contact is established via e-mail.

        2) What is the need for this kind of clearing house? Are people
happy with commercial options, or is there substantial demand
              for an alternative?

I don't know what kind of response to expect hear, but I look forward to
hearing from many of you. My thanks to those who have already offered their
input. Please respond directly to me. I will summarize for the list if
necessary, and for individuals where applicable.
