Re: In-House Binding Machines Beth Holley 22 Jun 1993 18:09 UTC

The University of Alabama discarded this machine about two years ago for
preservation reasons. We use to use it to bind incomplete periodical volumes
but found that each time the volume popped apart when someone wanted to make a
photocopy, a new set of holes had to be drilled. If the missing issue(s) ever
did turn up or were purchased, more often than not, the volume could not be
bound because of the number and position of the holes. Even one set of holes
can destroy the binding margin.

We now bind incomplete with an appropriate message in the volume indicating
the missing issue(s) after trying to get the missing issue(s) from at least
three back issue dealers and/or the publisher at a reasonable price.
