VALDOSTA STATE UNIVERSITY

POSITION:  Automated Systems Coordinator.  A permanent faculty position at
the rank of assistant professor.  Tenure track.  Twelve month contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Under the direction of the Associate Director for
Technical Services, and in close liaison with university computing
centers, the Coordinator will manage, plan, and coordinate the library's
automation and networking activities.  Major responsibilities include 1)
full implementation and maintenance of the Data Research ATLAS automated
library system, 2) supervision of a computer specialist responsible for
system operation, and 3) participation in a team effort to make policy and
operational decisions on all aspects of library automation and
electronic information delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The position requires an ALA-accredited master's degree
and at least two years of professional experience working in an
academic library with an integrated automation system.  Candidates should
have a clear understanding of bibliographic control, database
management issues, and MARC record structure.  Applicants familiar with
CD-ROM databases and networking will receive extra consideration.  Good
interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills are required, as is
demonstrated ability to work with library staff at all levels.

SALARY:  $30,000

SETTING:  VSU is a senior unit of the University System of Georgia with an
enrollment of approximately 8,675.  The campus is located in a city
of 50,000.  Odum Library has a staff of forty-five, including fourteen
