ANNOUNCEMENT OF JOB OPENING:

SERIALS LIBRARIAN, LIPPINCOTT LIBRARIAN, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

SUMMARY:  Responsible to Librarian of Lippincott Library for management of
serials function which includes serials, government documents, and
periodicals section; participates w/professional staff on planning,
implementing, and improving library services.

DUTIES:  Supervise and train serials and periodical unit staff.  Manage
public services periodicals desk.  Work in conjunction w/serials librarians
for enhancements and implementations of serials procedures, including new
NOTIS serial modules.  Analyze all functions related to serials and
resolve problems.  Participate w/and advise Public Services staff on
selection and retention of serials titles; coordinate acceptance, review,
and disposition of gifts.  Coordinate and supervise binding operations.
Responsible for serials budget; communicate and negotiate with publishers
and vendors.  Participate in collection decisions w/library staff.
Responsible for organization of Wharton Working Papers project.  Initiate
and coordinate special projects, as needed.  Serve on reference desk, as
needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-MLS or equiv in training, knowledge, and work exp.  Three
yrs. professional exp in technical processing at academic research
library.  Supervisory exp req'd.  Familiarity w/NOTIS or similar
integrated library system.  Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and
communicate effectively w/co-workers and clients.  Some background in
business information or reference desirable.  Strong computer skills pref'd.

SALARY & TO APPLY:  Librarian III salary range is $31,900 - $40,600.  To
