Re; Shelf arrangement Paul Reynolds 05 May 1994 03:59 UTC

Thank you to all the people who responded to our questions regarding
the physical relocation of an alpha organised collection to a
classified system. I apologise for the amount of time it has taken to
get back to the list but its been hectic...

The no. of replies we received made it impossible to acknowledge each
one individually but be assured we appreciated your responses.

A number of people were not convinced that going to a classified
system was the correct direction and advised against this process.
I do not want to reopen this debate so let me just say that in my
opinion an alpha system might be suitable for smaller
libraries and/or special collection libraries, it is not however
adequate for a multidsciplinary academic library.

Of the number of great ideas we received, a few people suggested
using either a spreadsheet or a database package to analyse the amount
of space needed. What a great idea, should have thought of it myself
really!

Thanks again to all that responded.
