                            TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE
          AT THE GOLDA MEIR LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is a major metropolitan
research university serving over 25,000 students.
The campus is located on Milwaukee's tree-shaded residential east
side bordering Lake Michigan.

The Golda Meir Library is a modern, centralized library housing over
4.2 million bibliographical items as well as the 1 million
item American Geographical Society Collection.  The materials budget
exceeds $2.4 million/year.

                          HEAD, CATALOGING DEPARTMENT

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Technical Services and
Collections, provides leadership for the Cataloging
Department; manages all activities of the department including
creation of bibliographic records for all materials acquired by
the library and coordinates cataloging activities of other library
units; develops goals and priorities for the cataloging of library
materials; oversees database maintenance and retrospective
conversion; coordinates and disseminates cataloging policies and
procedures; trains and supervises 4 Librarians, 9.5
paraprofessionals, library school students and student employees;
participates actively in library wide planning committees.
QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited MLS; 5 years
post-MLS cataloging experience in an academic library using LC
classification, LCSH and AACR2 rev.; high-level working
knowledge of national and international cataloging and classification
standards as applied to all bibliographic formats;
experience with automated bibliographic utilities (e.g. OCLC or RLIN)
and automated library systems (e.g. NOTIS);
demonstrated administrative or supervisory experience in an academic
library; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and
written communication skills; working knowledge of foreign language,
including at least one European language.  Desired:
Second advanced degree in relevant field; record of active
professional involvement.

                         HEAD, ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Technical Services and
Collections, develops goals and priorities for the acquisition of
library materials.  Provides leadership and management of the
Acquisitions Department, comprising the Order Searching Unit
and the Holdings Control Unit.  Responsible for supervising a
department of seven full-time staff plus part-time staff and
student employees.  Advises the Executive Committee for Collection
Management on collection levels and policies.
Communicates effectively with publishers and vendors.   Participates
actively in librarywide planning committees.
QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited MLS; 5 years of relevant
professional experience in an academic library;
working knowledge of procedures and awareness of trends involving
serials; automated acquisitions experience, preferably
NOTIS; familiarity with MARC format; familiarity with domestic and
foreign book trades; demonstrated administrative or
supervisory experience in an academic library; strong interpersonal
skills; excellent oral and written communication skills;
working knowledge of foreign language, including at least one
European language.  Desired:  Second advanced degree in
relevant field; record of active professional involvement.

SALARY:  Salary minimum $30,232, competitive depending upon
qualifications and experience
