Serials Holdings Standard Ming-kan Wong, Library 11 Oct 1994 14:26 UTC

My sincere thanks to those who responded my query seeking opinions regarding
serials holdings statements standard in OPAC. All responses endorse use of
holdings standard. I have summarize the responses below:

State University of NY at Buffalo: They use the ANSI Z39.44-1986 Standard
along with USMARC Holdings Format in their NOTIS system. Recommended to
develop examples and interpretations before start following the Standards.

>From AT&T Bell Laboratories: They also incorporate the Z39.44 Standard,
along with the USMARC Holdings Format, in their own serials control system.
They use ANSI level 3 for retrospective holdings strings; ANSI level 4 after
they have implemented their automated check-in system. Recommended reading
ANSI/NISO Z39.71-199X to supplement Z39.44.

>From Western Carolina University: Recommended the use of level 4 of ANSI
Standard. Their OPAC system is INNOPAC.

>From UGA: Looking for possible availability of programming routines that
can implement Z39.44.

Once again, thank you for the responses.
