               VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

               HEAD OF CATALOGING

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Plan, implement, monitor and review all
activities of the department, which is responsible for
bibliographic control of the current and historical collections.
Supervise 3 FTE, as well as future additional project staff.
Serve as project manager for migration to a new integrated
library system.  Manage current and planned retrospective
conversion projects.  Investigate the application of new
technologies to enhance bibliographic access to collections.
Contribute to the development and writing of grant proposals for
cataloging projects.  Participate in professional activities at
the local and national levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS from an ALA accredited institution.  Five or
more years of professional experience including 2 years at a
supervisory level.  Thorough knowledge of original and copy
cataloging in all formats using MeSH, and NLM and LC
classification.  Related authority control work using a major
bibliographic utility and an automated system.  Initiative,
management ability and the qualities of creativity, flexibility
and adaptability.  A record of involvement in professional
organizations.

maintains approximately 700,000 volumes, including 49,000 rare
books, and 2,000 serial subscriptions. Current acquisitions cover
all areas of biomedicine, but emphasize public health, medical
education, health policy, the societal aspects of medicine and

Middle Atlantic Region of the National Network of Libraries of
