SERIALST Fileserver & Other Enhancements Birdie MacLennan 20 Jan 1995 14:40 UTC

I am pleased to announce that we have, at long last -- and with big
thanks to John Ryder of the University of Vermont's Division of
Computing and Information Technologies -- implemented an enhanced
SERIALST fileserver (or filelist) capability for easy storage and
access to selected serials-related documents of an important or
time-sensitive nature.

While the filelist has existed since SERIALST's beginning, as a storage
/delivery mechanism and listing for the monthly discussion logs, it is
now possible to take advantage of its document delivery capabilities
in handling other text files -- in addition to the monthly logs.

Two documents are currently available through the fileserver:

** The SERIALST Welcome message - known to long-time subscribers
as the Scope and Purpose Statement, this item offers an
overview of the list, including basic LISTSERV commands and
information about retrieving information from the discussion
archives. (we've also recently set up a mechanism so that
new subscribers will receive this document, in addition to
the standard LISTSERV signon message, when they join the list)

To receive a copy of this file, issue a one line e-mail message
to: listserv@uvmvm.uvm.edu (please don't send to SERIALST) that reads:

                GET SERIALST WELCOME

** CONSER Core Record Guidelines for Printed Serials - as issued
in a Jan. 12, 1995 CONSER memo to SERIALST.

To receive a copy of this file, issue a one line e-mail message
to: listserv@uvmvm.uvm.edu (please don't send to SERIALST) that reads:

                   GET CONSER CORE

(note: this file will be removed from the filelist when
the CONSER Core Record guidelines are incorporated into the
_CONSER Editing Guide (CEG)_ in June or July, later this year)

You may retrieve a copy of the SERIALST filelist to review the index,
or list of files available on the server by issuing an e-mail request
to: listserv@uvmvm.uvm.edu

                    INDEX SERIALST [or]
                    GET SERIALST FILELIST

(these commands are synonymous and either of them will get the same results)

We will be mounting other files of an important or time-sensitive
nature as they become available.
