                           1995 Spring Conference

         STRATEGIC ALLIANCES FOR ACADEMIC LIBRARIES: PUBLISHERS, VENDORS AND
                            POLITICAL PARTNERS

                          Seekonk, Massachusetts
                            April 20-21, 1995

        A strong future for libraries depends upon their alliances with
publishers and vendors who supply information, and upon strong political
support.  The ACRL/NEC Spring 1995 Conference offers a program of
stimulating and controversial speakers who will give their opinions on
how to build these alliances and work with our parnters.  The nature of
information commerce is changing rapidly as publishers and vendors take
advantage of growing electronic capabilities.  How do these trends affect
the relationship that libraries have with scholarly and society publishers

        demonstration of OCLC Guidon software access and the Worldwide Web

        ARNOLD HIRSHON (Wright State University): Alliances in the virtual
        world

        GARY SHIRK (Yankee Book Peddlar) and HANK RYNER (UMI): Vendor value-
        added services

        MARSHALL KEYS (Executive Director, Nelinet): The economics of
        information commerce

        CAROL HENDERSON (Executive Director, ALA), and KEITH FIELS (Director
        of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners): Political
        partnerships

        Join us at the Johnson and Wales College Inn, which is opertated
 by Johnson and Wales College, renowned for its programs in hospitality
 and cuisine.  There are 70 rooms available to conference
 registrants at the Johnson and Wales Inn.
