PERIODICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT HEAD University Libraries at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a dynamic leader for the head of its Periodical Services Department. It is a 12 month AAUP faculty (tenure-track) position. Salary is dependent on one's qualifications, but the minimum salary is $26,430. Benefits include 22 vacation days, sick leave, tuition remission for self and immediate family, health care and a retirement plan. ENVIRONMENT: This position reports to the division head for Access Services. There are 6 other department heads that make up the Access Services division team and there are 6 staff members in the department. University Libraries consists of 1 central and 9 branch libraries and it has more than 7000 periodical subscriptions. The University of Cincinnati is an ARL institution and the second largest academic institution in the state of Ohio. It also is a leading member of OhioLINK, a dynamic statewide information access network. The city of Cincinnati has had the distinction of being rated the most liveable city in the US. DUTIES: Plans and directs the activities of the department, including public service, receiving, claiming, and binding preparation. Plans and monitors department workflow. Responsible for supervision, including hiring, training and evaluating department staff. Prepares department budget and participates in division planning. Formulates and implements periodical policies and procedures, including development of services and budget preparation. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program. Three years library experience, including successful supervisory experience, in a medium or large academic or research library. Experience with management of periodical records in an integrated, online system, including receiving and claiming activities. Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a rapidly changing environment. Preferred: Reading knowledge of 1 modern European language. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be visually able to read a computer screen. Must be able to communicate in person. Must be able to operate a keyboard.
