Subject: Announcing Affiliation of ACQNET and AcqWeb

[Originally announced to ACQNET, Vol. 5, No. 12, April 5, 1995.
Cross-posted to AUTOCAT, COLLDV-L, LAW-LIB, PACS-L and SERIALST]

_ACQNET : The Acquisitions Librarians Electronic Network_ is
affiliating with a World Wide Web site recently developed for
acquisitions and collection development librarians by Anna Belle
Leiserson. Originally known as _Ms. Acquisitions_, the new name
for this Web home page will be _AcqWeb_.

We think this will be a significant advantage to all acquisitions
librarians and others in this loop as AcqWeb is a substantial
resource for pre-order verification and collection development. To
complement this, ACQNET subscribers will be able to report Internet
resources they find relevant to acquisitions, collection development
and other related issues through ACQNET that in turn can be linked
on AcqWeb. These relationships are still evolving and we are
charting new territory. In addition, be aware that ACQNET backfiles
are available through AcqWeb.

The switch is scheduled for this week-end -- hopefully on April 8th.
The official URL will be the current URL for _ Ms. Acquisitions_:
     http://www.library.vanderbilt.edu/law/acqs/acqs.html

A note to those with links to the old URL (i.e.
http://libdev1.lib.vanderbilt.edu/law/acqs/acqs.html): it is still
working. Both addresses go to the same place. The new address is
actually what is called an "alias." It is safer, however, at some
point to switch to this alias, as it will follow the Vanderbilt
Library Systems computer should they move to another machine in the
future. Also, please note that Ms. Acquisitions and her menagerie
will remain on board with her mostly relevant news byline and their
mostly irrelevant graphical input.

A draft version of _AcqWeb_ is temporarily available at:
      http://www.library.vanderbilt.edu/law/acqs/acqweb.html
