Library Position Announcement Central College Pella, Iowa 50219 POSITION: Acquisitions/Serials/Reference Librarian TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: A twelve-month appointment with faculty rank; reports to Director of Library; salary and rank dependent on experience and qualifi- cations; start date August 21, 1995. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS; sound liberal arts education with wide-ranging research interests; 1-2 years relevant acquisitions/serials experience in integrated online systems environment; demonstrated reference & teaching skills; successful reference experience with traditional and electronic resources (online catalog, Dialog, STN, CD-ROMS, Internet and DOS); cataloging experience with OCLC, AACR2, LCSH; knowledge of national/foreign publishing; excellent organizational & interpersonal skills; experience with creating WWW, HTML, Mosaic resources desired. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage all monograph and serials acquisitions; provide reference service; instruct students and faculty in information retrieval; participate in collection development; manage materials budget & serials lists; supervise acquisitions/serials staff; catalog serials; assist with technology planning and implementation including networking CD-ROMS and developing a WWW server; evening reference rotation required. GEISLER LIBRARY: The Library's mission is to provide students with the infor- mation they need to achieve their highest academic potential and to help them acquire research skills necessary to life-long learning. Housed in an award- winning building, Library resources include a growing collection of 180,000 volumes, subscriptions to over 950 periodicals, 370 continuations, 7 CD-ROM indexes, and 55,000 microforms. Its Media Center houses 9,000 items including slides, films, videos and audio recordings. The library's collections are accessed by an Innovative Interfaces integrated system with networked access from the main Library, Music and Chemistry branch libraries, dorms and campus offices. Its online catalog gateway provides access to the vast resources of the Internet.
