Date: Mon, 08 May 1995 15:01:00 -0400 (EDT) From: "Leah.Black" <20676LCB@MSU.EDU> Subject: Immediate Electronic Resources Cataloger Opening MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES ANNOUNCEMENT OF MSN/ MSU LIBRARY VACANCY TITLE: Electronic Resources Cataloger, Librarian I DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Principal Cataloger, this cataloging position supports the work of the Manufacturer's Support Network (MSN) of the Michigan Industrial Extension Partnership (MIEP). The Electronic Resources Cataloger is responsible for creating MARC compatible HTML cataloging records for incoming electronic resources for the World-Wide-Web database of the Manufacturer's Support Network. The database is based on custom database software. Electronic resources will include HTML, SGML, ASCII tagged monograph and serial texts, business/manufacturing databases, digital images, and other manufacturing-related, internet-accessible digital resources. Monitors the currency of Web resources, providing updated versions of information in the MSN database. Enhances and maintains a specialized thesaurus of manufacturing terms for use in the database. Develops and maintains cataloging documentation and procedures for an MSN statewide consortium of specialist service providers and groups. Develops new cataloging policies in cooperation with other Manufacturer's Support Network staff from the Library, Computer Lab and Eli Broad College of Business. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: An ALA-accredited MLS, excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated knowledge of internet navigation tools and HTML tagging; excellent organizational skills; and a demonstrated service orientation. Desirable: AACR2/MARC-based cataloging experience; additional degrees, education or experience relevant to manufacturing, business or engineering highly desirable; experience with database construction and software; cataloging instruction/training experience helpful; interest in working in a team environment; flexible, energetic and a creative problem-solver. CAMPUS & LIBRARIES: The Michigan Industrial Extension Partnership (MIEP) is a consortium of organizations providing assistance to manufacturing firms in Michigan. MIEP is developing the Manufacturer's Support Network (MSN) to provide Michigan manufacturers with access to database and electronic mail services. MSN staff are located on the Michigan State University Campus. The campus, Libraries, Computer Laboratory and Eli Broad College of Business serve more than 2,000 faculty, 32,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres. East Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capitol. Support for the Manufacturer's Support Network is provided by the Technology Reinvestment Project, the State of Michigan Department of Commerce, Michigan State University, the Edward Lowe Foundation, the Small Business Development Center, Merit, Inc. and Great Lakes/Ameritech. SALARY: Temporary appointment will be made at the Librarian I level. Renewable. Salary minimum is $28,500. CLOSING DATE: Available immediately.
