Subject: JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

New York University, Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, is accepting
applications for:

Title: Assistant Head of Acquisitions

Description:  Manages the Receiving Section of the Acquisitions Unit,
which receives materials in all formats for the library's collections,
including 12,000 serial subscriptions and 45,000 monographs annually,
using a Geac ADVANCE system. Supervises, trains, and directs the work
of 9 full-time and several part-time receiving staff in check-in of
serials; receipt of books, videotapes, CD-roms, and other formats;
claiming of missing issues; and bindery preparation for serials.
Under the direction of the Head of Acquisitions, works closely with
Ordering and Invoicing/Accounting Supervisors.  Assists Head in
management of and planning for the unit, and takes charge of the unit
in Head's absence.

The New York University Libraries:  Library facilities at NYU serve
the school's 50,000 students and faculty and contain more than 3.5
million volumes.  The Elmer Holmes Bobst Library houses 2.5 million of
these volumes and serves as the University's principal research
resource.  NYU is a member of the Research Libraries Group and serves
as the administrative headquarters of the Research Library Association
of South Manhattan, a consortium which includes three academic
institutions in Greenwich Village.

Qualifications:  ALA Accredited MLS, subject master's degree required
for tenure; minimum of two years experience in a large serials
acquisitions department; demonstrated supervisory skills; vendor
negotiation skills; ability to work comfortably and productively in a
complex and high-volume work environment; excellent oral and written
communication skills; awareness of and involvement in current national
developments in acquisitions and serials control.

Salary/Benefits:  Faculty status, excellent benefits include five
weeks annual vacation.  Salary commensurate with experience and
background.  Minimum: $34,000.
