The University of Oregon would like to announce the following:

                        SERIALS CATALOG LIBRARIAN
                            (Search Extended)

RANK: Assistant Professor (faculty status; renewable, fixed-term contract).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Entry-level position.  Under the general supervision of the Head, Serials
Department, acts as serials cataloging team leader, working with serials
copy catalogers.  Adds call numbers and subject headings to serial
cataloging copy.  Performs original serials cataloging and difficult copy
cataloging, series and name authority work in a variety of formats and in
all Roman-alphabet languages. Answers questions from serials copy catalogers
and books catalogers.  Prepares local holdings, check-in and binding
information for input into the University of Oregon INNOPAC serials check-in
system and local binding database.  Prepares data for input into the Oregon
Regional Union List of Serials, which is maintained on OCLC.  Assists in
training other Serials Department support staff, including writing routines
and procedures.  Acts as Department Head when Head is absent.  May serve on
Library and University committees, participate in Library Instruction and
Collection Development programs, and perform special projects and other
related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; reading knowledge of at least one
Western European language; demonstrated interest in principles and processes
of bibliographic control, and the application of technology to them;
excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively
with all levels of staff; and potential to excel in a dynamic and
challenging academic library environment.

SALARY:
$25,000.  Benefits include a choice of medical plans (Blue Cross/Blue Shield
or HMO options), state or TIAA/CREF retirement plans, 22 vacation days, and
low staff tuition rates.
