Re: Ownership Labeling Kat McGrath 12 Sep 1995 21:48 UTC

In reply to Betty Jean Wilson:

The University of British Columbia Library has decentralized its check-in
operations for the 13 branch libraries in the system, so there are some
variations in practice between check-in locations. However, the basic
issue markings are as follows:

1. property/date stamp on front cover (if cover is dark or glossy stock
an avery label is affixed and stamped)
2. library location code is written on right upper corner (ie. HSS REF -
Humanities/Social Sciences Division Reference)
3. call number is written on lower left corner for those library
locations that shelve their periodicals in call number order
4. barcode on upper right hand corner
5. 3M tattle tape

We have a locally developed automation system, but are currently in the
process of acquiring a commercial system. It is hoped that with a new
system we may be able to incorporate a label printer process that would
produce location/call number labels for our periodicals as they are
checked-in.

I hope this information is helpful to you. I look forward to hearing the
results of your survey.
