In reply to Jeannette Skwor re signage:

We both catalog and classify all our periodicals; as the bound periodicals
are shelved by call number and successive titles all have the same call
number, there's no need for any kind of signage concerning title changes
(besides, by the time a journal is bound, the new title is already old
hat for habitual users). The current issues, while shelved separately and
in closed stacks, are also shelved by call number; again there is no need
for any signage, as the call number stays the same. The only confusing
time is when a journal first changes title, before the cataloger has a chance
to make the title change "official" and the label on the shelf gets changed
to the new title. Still, the call number is the unifying element.
