Re: Gordon & Breach Roberta Winjum 09 Dec 1995 01:29 UTC

As the person who sort of initiated the current round of Gordon & Breach
tirades, I feel compelled to jump back into the discussion.

We've cancelled most of our Gordon & Breach titles at the University of
Hawaii at Manoa, because of high price increases and poor customer
service. I think Mr. Churcher needs to know that.

However, I appreciate the fact that Mr. Churcher is responding to the
comments from SERIALST. We haven't always felt that Gordon and Breach
cared about interacting with their customers, and now we have someone
who is listening, even if we don't agree with each other.

The policy I've always found most disturbing about Gordon & Breach is the
combination of delayed publications and time limits on claims. First of
all, we're told that the publication date of an issue is unknown. Then,
we find out that it was published and because we didn't know to claim it,
the claim period has elapsed. The issue can no longer be supplied on our
subscription, but must be paid for again. Please, Mr. Churcher, can you
address this problem? Your journals are very expensive, and this
practice is making it difficult for libraries to keep your titles.

I hope we can maintain a dialog, and I will look forward to your answer
to this question.
