Head, Serials Department University of Notre Dame The University Libraries of Notre Dame are seeking an innovative leader to develop and guide its new serials department. This new department is being created to facilitate access to serials by combining the strengths of technical and public service staffs in serials acquisitions, cataloging, and direct user service. The department head will be asked to articulate an ideal of serials control and service and enlist others in its realization in an environment which values initiative, expertise, and teamwork. The successful candidate will possess a strong service orientation, an excellent grasp of serials cataloging, current awareness of information technologies related to serials acquisition and control, a record of continuing professional development, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in supporting the University's research, teaching, and learning. Required qualifications include: a graduate degree from an ALA- accredited library school; significant experience in direct user services and in serials librarianship; familiarity with AACR2 cataloging rules, MARC formats, serials bibliographic and holdings standards, and OPAC serials display; familiarity with new technologies; and supervisory experience. The University Libraries of Notre Dame is an ARL library serving a community of over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 600 teaching and research faculty and with an expanding budget due to the University's six year plan for library improvement. Librarians have non-tenure track faculty status. Position offers a minimum salary of $40,000.
