University of Georgia Libraries DUTIES: The Serials Cataloging Section of the Cataloging Department is comprised of the Head, one librarian, and five support staff members. The Serials Cataloger is responsible to the Head of the Section for performing original and copy cataloging of serials and periodicals in all subjects and languages. Along with the Head of the Section, the Cataloger serves as a resource person in the area of serials cataloging both within the Department and in other areas of the Libraries. The Cataloging Department has 11 professional and 20 support staff positions and catalogs over 50,000 books, serials, microforms, and nonprint materials yearly. The Libraries are a full member of the CONSER Program and participants in NACO. The Libraries have implemented the USMARC Format for Holdings and Locations. The Serials Cataloging Section accounts for over 1,500 new titles cataloged and approximately 1,000 titles recataloged yearly. The Libraries supports GALIN, an in-house, automated, integrated system. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS; Knowledge of AACR2, Library of Congress classification and subject headings, USMARC format, and contemporary cataloging rules; Ability to work with broad range of subjects and languages; effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; Flexibility in adapting to changing departmental and organizational priorities; Serials cataloging experience preferred; Strong interest in academic or research librarianship desired; Experience with OCLC cataloging desired; Knowledge of other automated systems applcable to technical services (and especially serials control) desired. SALARY MINIMUM: $26,000. Adjustments may be made commensurate with experience.
