Job Announcement

TOWSON STATE UNIVERSITY
Librarian:  Head of Serials

Towson State University is a metropolitan university in the Baltimore area
with approximately 14,000 students and 800 faculty in 38 major
undergraduate programs and 22 graduate programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  Coordinates the development of the library's
serials collection which includes materials in electronic formats.
Manages serials budget of over $500,000.  Supervises a department of 5
staff members and 15-20 students.  Oversees the ordering, receiving and
processing of serials; public access to periodicals and microforms;
binding of library materials; cataloging of serials; and maintenance of
serial holdings records in a CARL-based online catalog.  Participates in
library instruction, and works as a liaison with specific academic
departments.  Represents the library on state and local committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited masters degree; 3 years of professional
serials librarianship in an academic library, including 1 year library
public service and library staff supervision; knowledge of new library
technologies; excellent interpersonal skills.  Experience with a serials
module on an online integrated library system; familiarity with AACR2,
MARC formats, OPAC display, and serial bibliographic and holdings
standards are desired.

This is a full time, permanent status track position with a minimum salary
of $33,000 and excellent benefits.  Closing date:  April 8, 1996.  Send
