UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES, Copy Cataloging Manager Responsibilities: The copy cataloging manager's primary responsibility will be to manage the copy cataloging unit, consisting of seven support staff and three student assistants. The unit is responsible for copy cataloging, OCLC input, and pre-order searching and verification. This position reports to the head of the acquisitions and collection development department, which consist of copy cataloging, monograph ordering and receiving, pre-order searching and financial services. This position will participate in planning, setting goals and objectives, identifying and resolving problems, and assessing the productivity of staff and operations within the acquisitions department. Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and experience in cataloging operations required. Supervisory experience and knowledge of the Innovative system preferred. Required knowledge of MARC formats, LCSH, LC classification, AACR2, and automated cataloging systems, preferably OCLC. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Salary: $30,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax. Library Information: As the research library for a four campus system, the University of Houston Libraries holdings exceed 1.8 million volumes, with a current materials budget of $4.2 million.
