Re: Abstracts in Social Gerontology/Nat Council on Aging & S... Donnice Cochenour 05 Apr 1996 22:37 UTC

We are receiving the Abstracts in Social Gerontology without the membership
and have received issues through March 1996.

EBSCO lists two different "title numbers" one which includes the membership
and one which does not. Our cost without the membership for 1996 was
$186.

We have been subscribing to Abstracts in Social Gerontology since v.33,1990.
We were told that to subscribe we had to have a membership in the National
Council on Aging for $175.00 and that this included the Abstracts plus two
other publications we did not really want--Perspective on Aging and a NCOA
newsletter. We paid for 1995 and have paid for 1996 through EBSCO.

We claimed v.38 #4, 1995. We received a letter from the NCOA stating that
Sage has decided not to let Institutional members of the Council receive the
Abstracts with their membership. They did this in the middle of the 1995
volume. We have been told that to get v.38 #4,1995 we will have to pay an
extra $48.00 which is Sage's per issue charge even though we thought
this issue should be included in our 1995 membership charge of $175.

This is the first we learned of the change in policy. We have paid the $175
NCOA membership fee. We do not want their 2 other publications, just the
Abstracts. I hope the NCOA will refund our $175 so we can have EBSCO pay
Sage the $185 for the 1996 Abstracts. If not we will have to do without
the Abstracts since we can not afford to pay $360 for 4 1996 issues. Has
anyone else had this happen to them on this title? ...
