The University of Oregon announces the following vacancy:

SERIALS CATALOG LIBRARIAN (U.S. NEWSPAPER PROJECT)
(temporary, grant-funded, full-time)

RANK:
Assistant Professor (faculty status; 2 year contract with possibility of
renewal for third year).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Early career position.  Under the general supervision of the Head, Serials
Department, acts as newspaper cataloging team leader, working with newspaper
copy cataloger and inventory technician.  Performs original serials
cataloging and difficult copy cataloging, and name authority work for
newspapers in any format and in all Roman-alphabet languages.  Prepares
local holdings information for input into the UO database and OCLC union
list module (for ORULS and USNP union lists).  Assists in training other
newspaper cataloging team members, including writing routines and
procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; demonstrated interest in principles and
processes of bibliographic control, and the application of technology to
them; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work
effectively with all levels of staff.  Preferred: experience in newspaper or
serials cataloging and/or serials receiving; reading knowledge of a Western
European language.

SALARY:
$25,000 minimum.  Appointment beyond the minimum is dependent on
qualifications and experience.  Benefits include choice of medical plans
(Blue Cross/Blue Shield or HMO options), state or TIAA/CREF retirement
plans, 22 vacation days, and low staff tuition rates for continuing=
 education.
