This library moved all periodicals from the earliest through 1939 to
offsite storage. They are retrievable by courier who picks up the written
request forms once a day. This should give us 5 years' space in the
periodicals room of the library. We receive ca. 1800 titles.

Subject: shelving and dummies

We shelve by title. Some years ago we used dummies for title changes.
There were to help the users who scanned the shelves in addition to
finding specific citations. We also used them when the acronym and fully
worded titles were frequently confused. The dummies rarely stayed in
place. Sometimes users would bring the dummy to the Ref Desk: "How do I
find this?" We gave up and removed all the dummies.
