TITLE:       Librarian I, Assistant Head, Cataloging Department
LOCATION:    Cataloging Department, Technical Services Division.
             McKeldin Library
CATEGORY:    Associate Staff, Full-Time (12 Month Appointment)
SALARY:      Commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervise and manage the staff and activities of the
Monograph and Rapid Cataloging Units; serve on the Department's management
team; develop, plan and coordinate cataloging policies, procedures and work
flows; ensure effective use by the Department of the library's integrated
library system; maintain knowledge of trends in cataloging standards;
catalog, classify and perform subject analysis for library materials in a
variety of formats.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited master's degree in library
science.  Working knowledge of at least one foreign language.

EXPERIENCE:  Three years progressively responsible professional experience
in a Cataloging Department, preferably in a large research library; one year
supervisory experience; experience with Library of Congress classification
and subject headings; familiarity with MARC; thorough knowledge of an
automated library system; demonstrated skills in planning and directing
library projects, supervising staff, and using management tools.  Excellent
communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
