Heads Up: Journal of Neural Transmission Spec. Ed. Paula M. Lynch 25 Mar 1997 22:03 UTC

Hi 'listers...

I've just spoken with the standing order representative for Springer-Verlag
(NY) and here's the story...

ADVANCES IN RESEARCH ON NEURODEGENERATION, vol. 5, is a "special edition"
supplement to JOURNAL OF NEURAL TRANSMISSION, vol. 50.

The mysterious dark blue volume of "Advances in Research..." showed up in
the US mail this morning with only a packing slip to identify it. The
packing slip indicated that the publisher was shipping the volume to us
and, using a purchase order number "JRNL NEURAL TRANS", was billing our
accounts payable office for the item ($149.00). Other than this note on
the packing slip, there is no indication on the volume itself to link it
with the journal title.

The Springer-Verlag reps informed me that the publisher has shipped out
this special edition to all subscribers of JNT and has billed the accounts
payable office, rather than our subscription agents, as an "experiment".
Unfortunately, the Springer-Verlag management didn't let their customer
service representatives in on the experiment. The standing orders rep.
only found out about it when several JNT subscribers/customers called her
for information. Evidently the shipping/billing problem stems from the
fact that this series is shipped out from Europe.

I've already been in touch with our subscription agent (Faxon) regarding
the situation, and the fact that we will be deciding whether or not to keep
the volume and will decide how to pay for it.

Hope this helps anyone else who might be confused about the appearance of
this title.

Paula
