THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LIBRARY - THE D'ANGELO LAW LIBRARY - seek
applicants for the position of LAW CATALOGER .  Performs original
cataloging and classification of materials in a variety of languages and
formats, including print and electronic formats, for serials and
monographs.  Classifies materials according to Library of Congress
classification and local Benyon-K classification systems; catalogs
materials following LCSH, AACR2, LCRIs and other specialized rules; inputs
original cataloging records directly into OCLC; performs related authority
work and participates in NACO and other cooperative cataloging efforts as
appropriate.  The Law Cataloging section is responsible for several
in-house and outsourced retrospective conversion projects and this
position assists with retrospective conversion projects and related
problem solving. Other responsibilities include participation in local,
regional, and national professional organizations and serves on
library-wide committees and task forces.  QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate degree
in library science from an accredited library school required, with a
broad educational background in social sciences or humanities preferred.
One to two years related experience in an academic or research library
preferred. Good knowledge of AACR2 rules, Library of Congress Rule
Interpretations, Library of Congress classification and subject analysis,
and MARC formats for monographs and serials required, as is serials
cataloging experience. Familiarity with electronic formats, such as the
Internet and World Wide Web highly desirable.  Knowledge of legal
publications and online resources such as OCLC, RLIN, electronic resources
and other emerging technologies desired. Good knowledge of more than one
European language required, German or Slavic, especially Russian,
preferred.  SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Appointment salary based on
qualifications and experience.  Salary range begins at $31,040.  Benefits
include retirement plan, insurance, and paid time off. There is at tuition
benefit plan for college age and younger children. APPLICATION: should
