Marshall University Libraries is accepting applications for the position
of Serials Librarian.  Marshall is building a new state-of-the-art library
merging innovative digital resources and traditional library services; the
new building is expected to open in July, 1998.  The Serials Librarian
will be expected to play an important role in providing quality services
within this framework.  This Technical Services position will report to
the Head, Technical Services;  however, the incumbent will be expected to
participate in Public Services functions including in a regular rotation
of daily, evening and weekend Reference Services.  Serials duties include
assisting in formulation of goals and priorities, implementing policies,
and monitoring serials procedures and workflow.  The incumbent may
participate in serials acquisition and bibliographic control processes,
and will work closely with the Head, Technical Services and the Digital
Resources/Automation Librarian in developing the collection of electronic
resources.  Public Services duties include providing direct services to
library patrons on a regular basis, supervising Serials Workroom and
related operations, and working with members of the University Community
in evaluating the role of electronic resources in supplanting and
enhancing traditional library materials.

Requirements:  ALA accredited MLS; experience with or demonstrated
knowledge of traditional and electronic serials subsystem and a major,
integrated library system;  experience in public services.  This is a 12
month, non-tenure track faculty appointment;  Marshall University
Libraries is interested in recruiting either at the Instructor/Librarian I
(entry) or Assistant Professor/Librarian II level.  Salary commensurate
with experience and qualifications.
