Using 'aggregator' services Helen M. Aiello 03 Feb 1998 16:58 UTC

I have a very general question for my serial colleagues: What are
libraries doing to offset the costs of aggregator services (such as OCLC
Electronic Collections online, Blackwells' Navigator services, Swets, etc.).
Are they simply absorbing these costs into their 'technology' portion of
the budget? Are they absorbing the costs via cancellations of other
serials? Reallocating money from their binding budgets? Is the impact of
these additional costs not a factor?

I have not seen any traffic regarding this issue and wondered if perhaps I
missed this discussion or other libraries feel it is simply a non-issue and
going ahead with these services and having the costs absorbed.

Your thoughts on this topic would be appreciated.
