Responsibilities: Performs original and complex copy cataloging of print and electronic resources, with emphasis on serials, for the University and three community colleges; establishes local serials cataloging standards and procedures; serves on Cataloging Policy Group; serves as trainer and resource person for serials copy cataloger; assists with quality control and problem solving in Catalog Department; interprets records for other staff; maintains knowledge of trends in serials cataloging and cataloging electronic resources; meets requirements for promotion and tenure. Reports to the Director of Technical Services. Qualifications: ALA accredited M.L.S. Two years professional cataloging experience, with significant experience cataloging serials. Thorough knowledge of AACR2r, USMARC, LCSH, LC classification system, and standard authority control procedures. Experience with bibliographic utility and local library system. Strong analytical and communication skills. Evidence of initiative, flexibility, productivity, and ability to work creatively in an academic environment. Knowledge of current trends in cataloging and evidence of contribution to the profession. Salary: 12 month tenure track faculty position at rank of Assistant Professor; minimum $39,791. Fringes: TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 vacation days per year; generous sick leave. No state income tax. The Environment: The University of Nevada, Reno, the land-grant university and major research institution in the state, has a student body of 12,000, with approximately one-third enrolled in graduate degree programs. The Libraries are an Innovative Interfaces site with a collection of 950,000 volumes, 3 million microforms, 1.3 million government publications, and 6500 current periodicals features mining, government information, Great Basin, and Basque studies as areas of excellence. The Libraries have enjoyed a steadily increasing budget, enabling rapid expansion of information technology and wide-spread use of document delivery services to augment a current state-allocated acquisitions budget of $3.5 million. The University is situated in Reno, a metropolitan area of 300,000, at the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The city is conveniently located only 40 miles from Lake Tahoe, a world-class skiing area with limitless summer and winter recreational opportunities.
