I wouldn't want to see it in OCLC because it would require local editing of the record for everyone else. Adding it to your own record, even if it *only* serves to save staff time (something all of us need to be concerned about in these lean times), makes a lot of sense to me. Here at CUNY two of the colleges used series statements for local collections. Then other colleges used records containing the "series" statements. You wouldn't believe how many colleges have the same collections as the first two. Since these series statements are not in a purely local field, like a 590, it's easy for copy catalogers to overlook them. You might try a 690 field (local subject) -- I know its not really a subject, but it's not really a title either. More like a location. Michael S.
