I am not a cataloger, but I do serials acquisitions among other duties.  We
use what we call local subject headings in our monographic records to cover
areas not normally included in LC.  We use the 650 code but type the local
headings in all caps to distinguish them from regular LC headings.  This may
be another option you may want to consider.
