In collaboration with the Director of Technical Services and the Director of Collection Development, will establish efficient and cost-efficient policies and procedures and will direct number of significant new acquisitions initiatives; participate in formation of interdepartmental digital resources team involved in selecting, purchasing, licensing, mounting, and cataloging of digital resources; investigate new means of exchanging order information with vendors and receiving data, including MARC data, from vendors and other suppliers of bibliographic information; represent the Technical Services department in developments related to acquisitions functions in Indiana University's ongoing development of the Library's next generation integrated library system. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library science, or equivalent combination of education and experienced in academic library; demonstrated experience in acquisitions, preferably in more than a single academic research library environment; demonstrated supervisory experience; broad knowledge of trends in the domestic and foreign publishing industry for both monographs and serials, including developments in electronic publishing; knowledge of industry and library financial practices and experience in negotiating with publishers and vendors; excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills; good interpersonal skills and ability to participate as a member of a management team and direct work of acquisitions teams; experience with bibliographic utilities and desktop utilities (Excel, Access). Preferred: MLS; experience with acquisitions and financial components of integrated library systems, particularly the NOTIS system, and knowledge of developments in new generation of local systems; experience in working with book vendors or bibliographic utilities in estabhlishing shelf-ready workflows. Salary and Benefits: Salary negotiable and competitive, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and rank. Rank will be either Associate Librarian or Librarian. This is a tenure track academic appointment, which includes eligibility for sabbatical leaves.
