FACULTY OPENING
        Digital Acquisitions Coordinator

The University of Virginia Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic
librarian who will shape and direct the future of the Library's digital
acquisitions and ensure delivery of quality information and service in a
dynamic environment.

Environment:

The Library system consists of eleven libraries, with independent libraries
for health sciences, law, and business. The libraries serve 12,000
undergraduates, 6,000 graduate students and 1,600 teaching faculty. The
historic Grounds and Thomas Jefferson=s Academical Village provide a
gracious backdrop for teaching, learning, and research. The Library, a
leader in developing the digital library, has four electronic centers which
create and deliver electronic texts; digital images, music and media;
geospatial and statistical data; and rare books and manuscripts. The

Job Description:

The Digital Acquisitions Coordinator reports to the Director of the
Acquisitions and Preservation Department; coordinates the acquisition of
all digital library materials; manages licenses and contracts related to
digital acquisitions; and works with collection managers and subject
selectors, library systems staff, and University Purchasing agents to
facilitate access and contract issues.  The Coordinator is responsible for
communication about digital materials within the library and University,
negotiating with vendors, and monitoring trends in electronic publishing
and licensing; serves as a library-wide resource on resolution of copyright
issues related to digital and print material.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

ALA-accredited master=s degree in library science or master's degree in a
related field. Knowledge of monograph or serials acquisitions methods,
Internet developments, and familiarity with technical issues involved in
the delivery of electronic products.  Experience with or ability to
negotiate complex contracts.  Familiarity with network-accessible
electronic resources and related copyright issues.  Effective
organizational, communication, presentation, and supervisory skills.
Strong service orientation.  Commitment to professional growth and
development.

 Salary and Benefits: $30,000 or higher, depending on qualifications.
Benefits include 22 days vacation, generous sick leave, group health
insurance, TIAA/CREF and other retirement plans, research leave.   General
faculty status.
